Using AirPods with Microsoft Teams on Windows
This guide will help you configure your wireless Apple AirPods as the speaker and microphone in Microsoft Teams on Windows. Follow these steps if Teams is not using your AirPods correctly.
1. Full Restart
- Save all work.
- Click Start ® Power ® Shut down.
- Wait 30 seconds, then power the laptop back on.
2. Reset Bluetooth connection
- Open Settings ® Bluetooth & devices.
- Find your AirPods ® click … ® Remove device.
- Put AirPods in their case, lid open. Hold the button on the back until the light flashes white (pairing mode).
- Back in Windows: Add device ® Bluetooth ® select your AirPods.
- Confirm they connect as both Headphones and Headset.
3. Confirm Windows sound settings
- Right-click the sound icon (bottom right taskbar) ® Sound settings.
- Under Output, select AirPods Hands-Free AG Audio.
- Under Input, select AirPods Hands-Free AG Audio.
- Play a video to test sound output.
- Speak into the mic and check the input level bar moves.
4. Configure Teams device settings
- Open Teams ® profile picture (top right) ® Settings ® Devices.
- Under Audio devices, set Speaker to AirPods Hands-Free.
- Set Microphone to AirPods Hands-Free.
- Optional: set Ringer to AirPods.
- Click Make a test call to confirm both mic and speakers work.
5. If audio still doesn’t work
- Close other apps (Zoom, Spotify, FaceTime) that may use AirPods.
- Check permissions: Settings ® Privacy & security ® Microphone ® allow Teams.
- In a meeting, click More (…) ® Settings ® Device settings ® select AirPods Hands-Free manually.
- Re-pair AirPods if only Headphones (not Headset) shows in Windows.
